In November 2011 Stop Suicide, a Swiss suicide prevention association, set up an exhibition under the title of “Art, Different Look At Suicide”, where they showcased works of 7 artists (including myself): Marc Cresci (paintings), Corinne Vorlet (paintings), Lorraine Pastre (illustrations), Thomas Buschbeck (film), Claudia Marclay (photographs), Patrick Gillieron Lopreno (photographs), Nadia Elpis (photographs). Most of the art peices and photographes were in one way or another inspired by a controversial subject of suicide. I have finally got a chance to talk to Anne-Marie Trabichet, a coordinator at Stop Suicide, who played one of the major roles in organizing the exhibition in Lausanne. Born in 1983, Anne-Marie has occupied a coordinator position since 2009. She has graduated from the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, with a bachelor degree in communication science, history and history of arts.

What is Stop Suicide? How is it different from other associations of suicide prevention?
Stop Suicide is a suicide prevention association created by young people and for young people. This is a movement that was formed in 2000 in Geneva by a group of students as a respond to the suicide of one of their friends. Shocked by their school administration’s silence about that suicide, they decided to organize a silent demonstration in order to draw attention of the public to the “taboo” on suicide. Right after they have been united into an association.
Stop Suicide goals are: to talk and make the population, politicians, and most importantly, the young people talk about suicide and its prevention; to make it easier for the young people to express themselves, to listen and to share; to highlight the ideas for suicide prevention that come from the youth; to become a link between the youth and the suicide prevention associations.
Among other projects, Stop Suicide implements several programs for the youth and the general population, such as raising awareness in schools and higher education institutions, holding an annual campaign for suicide prevention and awareness linked to the World Suicide Prevention Day, or developing a better suicide prevention network in Switzerland.
